Cipollino, his friends and foes – glass ornaments

The Tale of Cipollino or the Adventures of Cipollino is a story for children written by G. Rodari.

This story has a political background. According to the story, an onion boy Cipollino and his friends live in the garden kingdom and fight for their freedom against the Prince Lemon and the Lord Tomato.

Cipollino became hugely popular among children in the Soviet Union in the 1950-70s.

No one other story’s characters were so widely produced with the variety of glass ornaments used on Soviet New Year trees.

The first Cipollino ornament’s series (produced at the end of the 1950s) had 23 glass figures.

A variety of differently designed molding ornaments of the story came later.
